If you want to attach a cat net to your balcony, you should first ask your landlord or property manager for permission. This is because it has the right to prohibit the installation of a cat network. It is enough if, in their view, the facade is aesthetically impaired by the protection.

In addition, you should inquire beforehand whether and into which parts of the masonry you may drill, for example to fasten hooks or other components.

Choose the right cat network

Depending on whether you have a free-standing balcony, a multi-storey balcony or a loggia, you have to choose the right mounting system to ensure the safety of your velvet paw. When choosing the cat net, you should also make sure to choose the right mesh size. For young and slim cats, a mesh size of three to four centimeters is recommended. Strongly built and older cats usually offer five centimeters of safety.

In addition to the correct mesh size, stability is a decisive factor that speaks for or against a certain cat network. The following models are available:

Wire reinforced netswhich are particularly robust and are therefore also suitable for active cats.
Normal or tear-resistant cat netsthat have no wire reinforcement. However, they are usually sufficient for not particularly agile cats.
Transparent cat protection netsthat are not wire-reinforced and have only a small thread size. Therefore they are not suitable for climbing cats.

In addition to these criteria, you should also pay attention to whether the cat's net is declared by the manufacturer as UV-resistant and tear-resistant in order to have something of the cat's net for as long as possible.

How best to attach a cat net depends entirely on the conditions of your balcony and the chosen mounting system. Basically, however, you should note the following tips: The net should always extend to the very edge of the balcony. Some house tigers use even the smallest gap to go on a curious tour of discovery. Therefore, pay particular attention to the side edges that the cat net is well attached.

In the case of a railing made of mesh, it should always reach all the way to the floor and be weighted down with a wooden or metal bar. So that your room tiger doesn't climb over the cat net, it should reach to the ceiling or the next balcony above yours. For free-standing balconies, it is advisable to attach another net over the balcony.
