London Pop-Up Bar Employs Dogs as Servers

Londoners were treated to more than a cocktail last weekend. They were the lucky customers of the world’s first-ever bar with a waitstaff made up entirely of dogs (with a little bit of human help, of course).

You may have heard of people teaching their dog how to fetch them unusual things around home, like a cold brew, while they wait for their beverage on the couch. The PR team at Kronenbourg 1664 (a brand of beer), decided that the citizens of London, England could be served by such trained canines… and in swankier digs than your basement!

Ifeoma Dozie came up with the idea of having four-legged waitstaff paw-deliver customers a brisk bottle of Kronenbourg 1664 beer. “We’re absolutely delighted to be opening the doors on the world’s first bar staffed by dogs. It provides customers with a truly unique experience and is the ideal way for us to bring the ‘Alsace-tians’ to Kronenbourg fans,” he said.

Guests were served last weekend in a temporary bar dubbed “Bar D’Alsace-tian” on London England’s Greek Street. Reservations had to be made far in advance, as being served by a friendly pooch is no ordinary custom! When customers took their seats, two complimentary bottles of Kronenbourg 1664 were brought to the table via a dog that was trained to bring these libations to the table. How did they transport them, you ask? Attached to their harness was a mini barrel, and all a person had to do is unlock it and voila – a fresh bottle of beer served by happy-go-lucky dog!

While there have been some stories of animal cafes gone wrong (complaints of animals being mistreated or appearing malnourished), this PR stunt only lasted a couple of hours, and the dogs seemed to be enjoying themselves by interacting with all the smiling humans around them (plus, the patrons looked absolutely overjoyed!) We sure do hope they tipped their waiters…. with plenty of belly rubs and head pats!
